Il a découvert cette musique Outre-Atlantique dans les années 70's, et depuis, il n'en a jamais démordu.
Outre sa passion pour cette musique authentique, Jacques Pallas est LE spécialiste de la fabrication du washboard musical.
Mais Pallas... C'est aussi le fondateur du Gourville Jug Band, de Sweet Mama...

A l'origine... une simple planche à laver ménagère
Les laviplanchistes un monde à part un peu isolé, des super percussionnistes dont peu de monde connaît les motivations. A l’origine, il y a cette planche qui a l’origine était vraiment à laver et aujourd’hui est conçue à partir de tôle ondulée. Deux façons de jouer : à l’américaine debout planche plaquée contre eux, à la française, planche posée sur une table métallique.
Le washboard permet de générer le rythme et le swing de façon irrépressible mais avec légèreté. Un transport sans commune mesure avec la batterie.
Pour les néophytes, il s’agit bel et bien d’une planche à laver dont on gratouille, percute attouche et titille la surface à l’aide de véritables dés à coudre.

Il en existe deux modèles: l’un entièrement en bois semble avoir assez peu été utilisé. L’autre en tôle ondulée avec parfois une partie de type damier.
On peut reproduire au washboard la plupart des effets obtenus sur la caisse claire. Il y a autant de baguette que de dés. Le son est unique.
